Movers in San Fernando

San Fernando is its own small city, completely surrounded by the City of Los Angeles. Here is what to plan for when you move there, from Kobe Moving in Van Nuys.

About San Fernando

The City of San Fernando is a separate city of its own, completely surrounded by the City of Los Angeles, with Sylmar to the north, Lake View Terrace to the east, Pacoima to the south and Mission Hills to the west. It is served by the 5, 210, 118 and 405 freeways and by the Sylmar/San Fernando Metrolink station on the Antelope Valley Line.

Because it is its own city, its parking rules and permits come from San Fernando City Hall, not from Los Angeles. That matters most on busy commercial streets and when a move starts in San Fernando and ends a few blocks away in Los Angeles.

Local moving notes

  1. Two cities in one moveIf you are moving between San Fernando and a Los Angeles neighborhood such as Sylmar or Pacoima, the parking rules at each address come from a different city. Check both.
  2. Narrow or shared drivewaysIf your driveway is narrow or shared, tell us, and tell us if the truck must park on the street.
  3. Commercial streetsIf your address is on a busy commercial street, loading is often easier from a side street or an alley behind the building.
  4. Moving a small businessIf you are moving a shop or office, tell us the hours the building is open and whether customers will be there.

From our Van Nuys base, San Fernando is north on the 405 and 5, or up Van Nuys Boulevard.

Parking and permits in San Fernando

San Fernando is a separate city, not part of the City of Los Angeles, so its own city parking rules apply within limits set by state law. Ask San Fernando City Hall if you need to reserve curb space on a busy block. California Vehicle Code 22507.5 lets a city restrict parking of commercial vehicles of 10,000 pounds gross vehicle weight rating or more on residential streets, but not for a vehicle making pickups or deliveries of goods to or from a building on that street.
