A local move is mostly careful handling: protecting furniture, getting it out of one home and into the next without damage, and keeping the day on schedule. On move day the crew wraps furniture in moving blankets and plastic wrap, loads the truck, drives it to the new address and unloads it into the rooms you choose. Furniture that has to come apart to fit through a door or into the truck, such as many bed frames and tables, can be taken apart and put back together.
How local moves are priced
Local moves are usually priced by the hour for the crew and truck. What moves the total up or down is the amount of furniture and boxes, how many movers the job needs, stairs, elevators and walking distance at both addresses, and whether you want packing help. Your rate is set on your quote, in writing, before move day. The more detail you give on the quote form, the closer the plan will match the real day.
Getting the most out of the hours
- Have boxes packed, taped and labeled with the room they go to before the crew arrives.
- Reserve the elevator and loading area if your building has one, and tell us the times you were given.
- Find out where a box truck can park at both addresses. In Los Angeles this is often the single biggest time factor.
- Keep valuables, documents and medication with you, not on the truck.
